Julie and I hiked Trail 504 with Sam a couple of weeks ago to scope out this peak. At times, you can't see a thing from the trail because it is positively overwhelmed by brush. So this picture is taken a bit farther away. The summit is just to the left of what appears to be the main peak (not). |

This day, I hiked up the trail until I found a spot that seemed like it might lead to better hiking. Overly optimistic? |

But there was better hiking. You just had to earn it. |

And there was no promise that it was going to last. |

Aha! Possible summit sighting. |

If you are determined enough, and willing to do some bushwhacking, you can eventually get to the summit. And you will find some cool views there. |

Looking down French Creek to the Salmon River canyon. |

French Creek Lakes (as noted on the map). I think worth a visit on their own merit. | ![]() |
Bench mark. "Squaw"? | ![]() |
Payette Lake. | ![]() |
"Buissons" is French for 'bushes'. If you are French impaired, say "Bwee- sohn" (but with just a hint of the 'n'). This was taken while trying to find the trail on my return to the truck. Yes, this is my 'trail'. I think you'd agree that Buissons is a very descriptive name, and well earned. |

Map It's possible that the better route would be a ridge traverse from Cougar Creek. Let me know if you make that happen. |
