A great urban hike, Piestwa Peak is right in Phoenix.

Piestwa Peak is right in Phoneix, Arizona. It used to be called Squaw Butte, but was renamed for a soldier injured during the Iraq War.

We were visiting Grandma in Goodyear (s subarb just west of Phoenix) and looking for a good hike. Caamel's Back seemed too crowded, so this is what we found.

This is a big park, with a huge parking lot. The lower trail is paved/cobbled.

The upper trail is mich more rugged, but there are still tons of people on the trail the entire way, most days.

As you quickly gain altitude, the vast horizon becomes visible.

The girls on the summit.
